Sleepaway camp isn’t really a thing here in Australia (maybe because there are too many deadly animals 🤪) so I’ve only learned about it from the movies. I always thought it looked like so much fun! I’d be like you though - wondering every waking moment if my kids were coping. So glad your daughter had a good time (happy tears good) 😊
I so looked forward to sleep away camp and then my dad became the director of camp the week I was there. My parents and younger sister stayed on the grounds. Fortunately, I had no contact with my mom or younger sister. Minimal contact with my dad--except when he was making pronouncements to the whole camp, and my older sister who was in a different cabin group.
I had so many friends at camp, I never felt alone and sad. I managed to have a great time and made sure my kids had a camp experience when it was there turns.
I went to sleep away camp in the 1960s. It was mostly miserable since it was a riding camp and I was afraid of horse. The only thing I learned, after hours of practice was how to produce a loud piercing whistle.. It has served me well over the years. My mother was instantly jealous and though she valiantly tried to duplicate my whistle, hers was a feeble, dispirited thing. I was so glad that I was able to outdo my mother! Worth every penny.
I was half expecting the denouement... However, it is nice to know that she wasn't miserable and that the camp wasn't a waste of your hard earned money. I remember going on camp with my school and being totally miserable because the whole class got food poisoning on the first night. We couldn't go home because we were too sick to travel...
I always dreamed of how great it would be if our kid would go to sleepover camp.
We finally convinced her one year to try it just for a night. Apparently she was crying and begging the leaders to let her call her mom all night and they wouldn’t let her.

That’s so interesting Sara! Haha yes definitely more things to worry about in the Australian wild than here in Canada!

Aww I love this!! It’s so expensive today I have toyed with the idea of working at a camp myself!
I truly loved camp life. It was fun, rejuvenating and fostered such wonderful memories.
I cried when I dropped my kids off at the same camp I had attended.
Not because I would miss them.
I cried because I wouldn't be there. 😂

Haha!! I had a brief horse riding overnight camp experience. I was the last camper to ride that goddamn horse. It was AWFUL.

Needless to say we never got her to go back 😞
Oh gosh, it can be so traumatizing or so amazing and that totally comes down to the staff and other kids.
